Dosha Mat Review – Scam or Legit? Truth Exposed!

Is Dosha Mat a scam? Does it really work?

Acupressure mats are designed to produce similar results as acupressure massage.

From Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupressure is a technique used to release blocked chi (Qi), or energy, throughout the body. Once these blockages are removed, pain can be reduced and alleviated.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic has forced me to work from home, I have suffered from both neck and lower back pains.

On the last particular Saturday night, I was not enjoying a glass of wine with friends; instead, I was lying in the dirt under a sheet of prickly nails with only a t-shirt to protect me from the 6000 spikes pressing against my back.

This product is called the Dosha Mat.

Since I have tried it myself, I can share with you everything about Dosha Mat.

What is Acupressure?

Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) technique. Doctors consider TCM a form of alternative or complementary medicine.

Acupressure therapy is similar to acupuncture, but acupressure mats do not contain needles or puncture the skin.

As with acupuncture, acupressure involves stimulating pressure points near the body’s meridian or energy lines to allow chi (Qi), or energy, to flow freely.

Acupressure mat manufacturers claim that their products can provide relief for:

  • headache
  • neck pain
  • back pain
  • stiff, sore muscles
  • stress and tension
  • insomnia
  • other types of body pain

How Does Dosha Mat Work?

Dosha Mats (and other similar mats) are designed to target specific muscle groups in a unique and relaxing way.

The mats are supposed to take pressure off the body in a similar way to an acupuncture session.

The sharp points increase blood flow to a particular part of the body resulting in the release of tension and pain, making it a wonder for sore muscles.

The mat also has a meditative element, which is particularly effective when you’re getting ready for bed, especially if one of your nighttime rituals involves scrolling through Instagram.

Is Dosha Mat Painful?

First off, believe it or not, the plastic spikes are pretty sharp.

I was eager to put my Dosha Mat to use in the beginning, but after taking a hot shower, my back was greeted with unimaginable pain.

I was so frustrated after a minute that I gave up. After hearing Shakti’s recommendation to wear a thin t-shirt while doing the workout, I resorted to it and it was SO MUCH BETTER.

Despite the pricks still being felt in my skin, the sensation was more like discomfort than pain.

When my phone timer told me I was a minute away from my 20-minute session, I was already blissfully ready for bed and did experience a much longer and deeper sleep than usual.

After using the Dosha Mat, I felt reduced in my stiffness, with a nice zingy feeling echoed in my body – in a similar way to feeling groggy after a massage, but more energetic later on.

Why Do You Need Dosha Mat?

Acupressure is an ancient Chinese therapy shown to help with pain relief, mental health and even weight management.

Since Dosha Mat works similarly to acupressure and acupuncture — by stimulating pressure points along the meridians of the body — it can provide the same or similar types of benefits.

In another word, Dosha Mat allows you to take advantage of all these health benefits in the comfort of your own home.

Most users of Dosha Mat have reported finding relief for the following conditions:

  • headache, which is alleviated by standing on the mat with both feet evenly placed
  • neck pain
  • Backache
  • sciatica pain in the back and leg
  • tight or stiff back muscles
  • stress and tension
  • fibromyalgia pain
  • Insomnia

How to Use Dosha Mat?

  • Choose the surface to put it on. Beginners often use Dosha Mat spread out on a bed or sofa. Intermediate and experienced users may move their mats onto the floor.
  • Try sitting on it. You can also sit on or against Dosha Mat in a chair so that your butt and lower back have direct contact.
  • Start out with a layer between yourself and the mat. Wearing a light shirt or placing thin fabric over the spikes may help you acclimate to the feeling of the mat.
  • Lie down slowly.
  • Reposition yourself carefully.
  • Use consistently. Mats take getting used to but really work for many people.

What is the Scientific Evidence of Acupressure?

Acupressure for pain

A 2011 study in Iran involving 72 students found that acupressure helped reduce menstruation-related pain. The researchers also observed that ibuprofen use decreased in those using acupressure to treat period pain and other menstrual symptoms.

The findings of a 2014 study on dental pain suggest that acupressure provides significant pain relief. Out of 60 participants, 46 people reported pain relief using self-administered acupressure therapy. Fewer people in the placebo group had lasting relief from dental pain.

In a 2012 study, researchers examined the effectiveness of acupressure mats on perceived pain in people with neck and lower back pain. A total of 82 people participated in the study. Those who used acupressure mats recorded significantly lower pain ratings than those in the control group. However, the study authors note that participants also continued other treatments alongside acupressure therapy.

A 2019 review and analysis of research found a link between acupressure and lower pain levels in people with cancer, compared with a control group. However, the researchers note that there is a need for additional studies to confirm this finding.

Participant diaries in a 2016 study on trigger point massage for tension headaches point to a decrease in headache frequency but not duration and intensity. Both the placebo and massage groups recorded the same results. The researchers caution that studies on headache pain that lack a placebo group risk overstating the effects of the studied intervention.

Acupressure for nausea and vomiting

Pregnant women and people undergoing chemotherapy might benefit from using acupressure to treat vomiting and nausea.

However, pregnant women should speak to a doctor before using an acupressure mat and should also avoid lying on their abdomen

Acupressure for sleep issues

Research from 2019 in the journal Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice found that acupressure did not positively affect sleep quality in people with migraine.

Participants who self-administered acupressure had a slight decrease in fatigue, but the control group also saw a decrease, albeit a smaller one.

Additional research from 2015 points to a link between acupressure treatment and an increase in quality sleep hours for older adults with Alzheimer’s disease. However, this study also had a small sample size.

Dosha Mat Cons and Complaints

1. Dosha Mat is Overpriced

Dosha Mat is not inexpensive. Many people complain that it is too expensive. Because the quality of Dosha Mat is not superior to that of other similar products, the higher price is not justified.

You will be able to find a similar or identical product at a lower cost elsewhere. Let me tell you where at the end of this Dosha Mat review.

2. Inefficient logistics

Dosha Mat is a small company with insufficient capital to invest in logistics. They are forced to rely on inefficient third-party logistics. They have minimal control over the shipping speed.

Therefore, you may see a lot of customer complaints about their slow delivery. If you want fast shipping, go with a large marketplace like Amazon. Unlike Dosha Mat, Amazon can ship products in a matter of days.

3. Dosha Mat Has Few Positive Reviews

I looked for positive Dosha Mat reviews but came up empty-handed. While the product is excellent, customers may be dissatisfied with their service.

Because Dosha Mat is a small company, you should not expect them to provide world-class service. It is preferable to purchase from a large marketplace such as Amazon if you want to ensure good after-sales service. There is much better customer protection there.

4. Dosha Mat does not offer unconditional refunds

Dosha Mat does not always issue refunds to customers. Although there is a refund policy, Dosha Mat has complete discretion over whether or not to issue refunds.

Some customers may find it unjust. However, this is a disadvantage when purchasing from an independent online store. Personally, I prefer purchasing from marketplaces such as Amazon, where the refund policy is reasonable. When requesting a refund, you will have Amazon’s backup.

5. Difficult to Return the Product

If you don’t like Dosha Mat, it’s difficult to return it to them. You would be responsible for the shipping costs.

That is why I dislike shopping at independent stores. If you want to avoid this problem, I recommend purchasing from Amazon. If you don’t like the product, you can easily return it. Later, I’ll tell you where you can get a similar or identical product to Dosha Mat on Amazon.

Is Dosha Mat a Scam?

I cannot say Dosha Mat is a scam for legal reasons. I researched them thoroughly, including their social media pages, review sites, forums, and so on. And while I see nothing suspicious about their business, I cannot find any verified positive reviews.

If Dosha Mat is a genuine and well-established company offering high-quality products, you should be able to find numerous positive customer reviews about them online.

But, strangely, I can’t find any. This could be due to the company’s service quality rather than its product quality. As a result, I have less faith in them. That’s why I looked for a similar or identical product on Amazon for you. Let me elaborate later.
